Yu-Gi-Oh! Blackwing Breakdown | July 16 Advanced Format

Kalut, Raptor Wing Strike, Vayu, Sirocco, Shura, Armor Master, Elphin

With the introductions of Blackwing – Nothung the Starlight and Blackwing Tamer – Obsidian Hawk Joe, as well as Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow/Black Whirlwind being back to three this format, the Blackwing swarm has returned. Here's just a quick look at what I will be running and why.

Monster (20)

2  Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North

Easy way to pop into Nothung to eat the Torrential Tribute or other monster destruction so that Hawk Joe can put in work.

3  Blackwing – Bora the Spear

A strong beater with Kalut, which you should always have from the Black Whirlwind search. Also can be grabbed with Black Whirlwind after summoning Shura.

3  Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind

I might drop this to 2 since it can be clunky, but it is a great way to go into Hawk Joe which is hands down one of your best cards. If it were 1200 attack it would be easily 1000 times better from being searchable off the Blizzard summon.

3  Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow

Absolute must have. I don't know how many times I have dropped triple Kalut for game or used it to push over an otherwise unkillable monster to give Shura her summon to grab Pinaki to go into Hawk Joe and then search again during the end phase.

3  Blackwing – Kris the Crack of Dawn

Normal summon, search Shura from Black Whirlwind, revive Zephyros from Grave, special summon Kris back to the field. Or you can search the Gale to set up a way to go into Hawk Joe with Zephyros in grave and then to save the Kris for another Shura search next turn off the second normal summon.

1  Blackwing – Oroshi the Squall

OTK with Nothung and Hawk Joe.

1  Blackwing – Pinaki the Waxing Moon

Great off of Shura since the effect will still resolve in grave. Used to grab Hawk Joe main phase 2.

3  Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame

Must have. Battle phase searcher.

1  Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite

Can easily be special summoned from grave to feed an Icarus attack or Synchro/XYZ summon.

Magic (9)

1  Allure of Darkness

Adds consistency by getting to 2 additional cards. Cost is easily mitigated by pitching dead cards.

3  Black Whirlwind

One of the best cards in the deck. Does the majority of your searching, especially with Nothung giving the extra normal summon.

1  Book of Moon

Techable card for dealing with threats or face up monster effects.

3  Pot of Duality

Adds consistency.

1  Raigeki

Mass monster destruction is always worth having, and the best part is that all your monsters get to stick around. Can clear the way for an OTK.

Trap (11)

1  Bottomless Trap Hole

Summons get in the way, this can stop them.

2  Fiendish Chain

Great for stalling to find a solution to a monster that is difficult to overcome or, in the case of Thunder King Rai-oh, a monster that is stopping your special summons for the OTK.

3  Icarus Attack

Can easily turn opponents' MST's into +1 situations. Many of your monsters can also do work from the graveyard and/or were a free search off of Whirlwind anyways, generating a possible +2.

2  Mirror Force

Mass monster destruction.

1  Solemn Warning

Some monsters you just don't want to ever see the field. This addresses that particular problem.

1  Torrential Tribute

Mass destruction

1  Vanity’s Emptiness

Once you get all of your special summons set up, this prevents retaliation without at least a little bit of work on your opponent's part.

Extra Deck (15)

1  Abyss Dweller

Helps keep opponents out of their graveyards since many decks utilize it heavily this format.

1  Armades, Keeper of Boundaries

Beatstick that can get through Mirror Force and other traps that activate before the damage step, such as D. Prison.

1  Beelze of the Diabolical Dragons

Amazing beater that can only be removed from play to get rid of it.

1  Black Rose Dragon

Easy way to clear the field out for an OTK.

1  Blackwing Armor Master

Summonable from the graveyard with Hawk Joe and gives an extra Blackwing synchro to go into. Preferable to Armed Wing.

2  Blackwing – Nothung the Starlight

Part of the OTK and a target for Hawk Joe. Extra normal summon is amazing. 800 direct damage is not too shabby either.

1  Blackwing Tamer – Obsidian Hawk Joe

Amazing! Being able to just summon a level 5+ winged beast from the graveyard cannot be overstated.

1  Evilswarm Exciton Knight

Techable Rank 4 XYZ to level the playing field.

1  Goyo Guardian

Can't argue with taking an opponent's monster for free to use for a synchro/XYZ later. They won't give us back Change of Heart, but this is the next best thing.

1  Ice Beast Zerofyne

Good way for dealing with troublesome monster effects. Can be subbed out for something else.

1  Number 47: Nightmare Shark

Wanted to have a Rank 3 XYZ, 2000 direct damage isn't too shabby, especially if manages to remain on the field the full 2 turns.

1  Number 66: Master Key Beetle

Useful if stalling for the perfect card. Otherwise just a beatstick.

1  Number 101: Silent Honor Ark

Easy way to get rid of opponents' synchros/XYZ's.

1  T.G. Hyper Librarian

While older and not as heavily used, with the massive amount of Synchroing that the deck can do, Librarian can create a massive amount of +1's.

Side Deck (7)

Admittedly, I don't currently have too much of a plan for the side deck as the main deck runs very smoothly without any changes and after playtesting, siding in cards can break up the consistency. If you have any recommendations, post a comment in the doobly-doo below.

2  Maxx “C”

1  Thunder King Rai-Oh

2  Mystical Space Typhoon

1  Imperial Iron Wall

1  Skill Drain

Got ideas for the side deck on cards I should add or changes to the main deck that you would make?
