Pokémon Red/Blue Nintendo 3DS Announced

Happy Birthday Pikachu!

Birthday Pikachu

It's truly amazing that it has already been 20 years since the franchise began. We went from the original 150 (plus Mew) which seemed absolutely daunting at the time to having over 700. But even now, there is still hope that with VR technology getting a consumer release this year and the announcement of Pokémon Go! just last year that one day, we too can become a Pokémon master.

This year though, Pokémon returns to its roots with the Pokémon Red/Blue 3DS Bundle.

Pokemon Red and Blue 3DS Bundle

My favorite was Pokémon Red by far. It was a gift from a cousin of mine after he no longer played it (blasphemy I know). I logged hundreds, if not thousands, of hours on it. Building complete teams of Pokémon through tireless runs of the Elite Four, with the best being an all "dragon" build of double Gyarados, double Dragonite, Charizard, and Aerodactyl.

I am torn though, I loved Pokémon Red but the Pokémon Blue cover is my favorite. That's okay. You don't have to choose. The bundle comes with both options.

Better yet, on February 27th (Pokémon Day for the uninitiated), Nintendo will also be re-releasing the Charizard, Jigglypuff, Greninja, and Lucario amiibos. And the people rejoiced.

What we're trying to say is, from all of the 90's kids, we love you Nintendo. And we still remember, even now, Ash & Pikachu's first anniversary of their meeting. Here's to 20 more years.
