Best of PAX Prime 2014

Every year developers showcase their hottest new titles at PAX Prime in Seattle, and this year was no exception. Here are our top five games of the weekend.

Titan Souls

Binding of Isaac meets Shadow of Colossus. This time though, the challenge is increased because to go against the titans, you no longer get to simply spray and pray, then hope for the best. No, you get only a single arrow and one life.

It was originally developed for last year’s Ludum Dare 28 competition, where the theme was “You only get one.” You can play the original prototype of the game here.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition is slated for release on November 18th of this year, and with 12 playable characters, skill trees, and 4 player co-op, I am definitely excited. Here’s a little something from PAX Prime this weekend to tide you over though.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Many fans of the franchise are angry due to the Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox exclusive deal but couch co-op Croft, need we say more? The sequel to Guardian of Light with a top down isometric view, it’s Alien Shooter meets Tomb Raider.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

A darker, Assassin’s Creed + Prince of Persia: Warrior Within meets LOTR offering from Monolith Productions, Shadow of Mordor looks to be a fun, grisly romp filled with beheadings, severed limbs, and other gruesome finishing moves. The Nemesis System is set to provide additional depth to the enemies that you defeat, bringing them back with scars and an axe to grind, or in the event that they defeat you, being promoted and becoming more powerful. It’s shaping up to be one of the best game offerings from the franchise. Here’s a quick look at the new system.

Super Smash Bros.

Finally a portable offering of the franchise! I have been waiting for this since games such as Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars were released in Japan for the DS 9 years ago. Here’s just a quick look at what we can expect when it is released on October 3rd.

So there’s our top five favorite games from the weekend. What can’t you wait for? Leave your answers in the comments section below.
